“It started as a lark, my brother asking me to “please” come to L.A. to shoot the pirates. It was for Talk Like A Pirate Day, a new holiday created by an expanding community of Pirates. Brother Clay hosted the affair at his tattoo shop in Century City and it became a real family affair as my son Joseph became the ship's boy. He helped out on all fronts, propping the pirates and assisting with the portable studio I set up in the back of a cube truck parked in front of the tattoo parlor.
I met some odd and wonderful people. Some were professional actors, and others, well, they just enjoyed dressing up in pirates regalia. A great time was had by all, and I got some wonderful images of my brother and son that mean a lot to me personally.”
